The flag of Latvia was adopted in 1922 as the flag of the independent Republic of Latvia. Under Soviet rule, the Latvian flag was banned. After regaining independence, the flag was restored on February 27, 1990. Legend says that the design originates from a cloth in which a leader killed in battle was wrapped. Latvia flag
