Premium or Standard And What Size?

How long does a flag last?

Did you know that a premium flag lasts an average of 3-6 months with intensive use? After this period, flags often show some wear and the colors fade. 3-6 months may not seem like a long time, but imagine that the flag is usually hung outside 24 hours a day, exposed to all weather conditions. That has a significant impact on the materials.

The lifespan of a flag naturally depends on the conditions it faces. Certain weather conditions, such as wind, sun, and rain, play a decisive role. For example, if you live near the coast where there’s more wind, a flag will last less long than if you live in a wooded area where there’s less wind. Furthermore, we advise against flying your flags and banners in winds of force 6 or higher.

Below you’ll find some tips to help you extend the life of your flag, so you’ll enjoy it even more:

  • Attach the flag to an official flagpole;
  • Keep flags away from sharp edges, bushes, or walls where they could fly against;
  • Repair loose hems in time, this prevents fraying;
  • Rain, snow and strong winds have a negative effect on the lifespan of flags;
  • Take flags inside when wind force is 6 or higher;
  • Never fold the flags when wet and store them in a dry place. This way, the colours will last longer.

Flagpole – which flag and pole?

How do I determine the size of my flags or the desired height of my flagpole? In short, which flag and pole do I need? Wereldvlaggen.nl uses general rules of thumb for this:

Flagpole

2 or 3m: 150 x 90cm or 150 x 100cm

4 or 5m: 225 x 150cm or 250 x 150cm

Mast length Flag straight format (W x L) Banner flag (W x L) (high format)

6 meters: 225 x 150 cm. 100 x 300 cm.

7 meters: 225 x 150 cm. 100 x 300 cm. or 120 x 350 cm.

8 meters: 300 x 200 cm. 100 x 400 cm. or 120 x 400 cm.

9 meters: 300 x 200 cm. 120 x 400 cm.

For standard flags, this is approximately 1/4 of the length of your pole.

Which pennant belongs to my mast?

A pennant may be 50% of your mast’s length, or half its height.
