The new Islamic government under Rabbani featured a flag change. The color scheme is similar to several Middle Eastern Muslim nations’ flags. The emblem is the same as the monarchy-era emblem, but with the addition of the Shahadah and swords representing the mujahideen’s victory. It now shows the year ١۲۹٨ (1298), the solar Islamic calendar equivalent of AD 1919 of the Gregorian Calendar, the year of full independence.
